It's a great idea, but CL should start implementing it in all of the classifieds sections, including the housing. I have inquired and received numerous emails from scammers trying to steal my personal info. If the scammer is out of the country and supplies that number on CL, then it will raise a red flag and CL should not allow that ad to be posted. Kind of tough, but there is no reason why anyone out of the country should be posting in CL anyway, and if there is, then there is a tiny percentage of people that would have to.

it's crap. i have a business in a few different areas and they verify with a phone number but say my number is already listed as in another directory and cant "cross list". there has to be a way that is better than this.

It is good because it also protects the users in the event of an accident. At least the buyer or seller can be contactable to resolve complex disputes over sales.

All I can say is, "Thank God!" This is the only problem with Craigslist. I find Craigslist so useful. Hopefully this will crush the businesses that rely on spamming Craigslist.
